On September 27, 2024, at approximately 11 a.m., troopers from the New York State Police Greenville barracks (Orange County) responded to State Route 97, also known as the Hawks Nest, in Sparrow Bush, New York. They were assisting the Town of Deerpark Police Department and the Port Jervis Police Department in searching for a missing, suicidal person.
The missing person, a 41-year-old female from Brooklyn, New York, had been reported missing to the New York City Police Department’s 79th Precinct on September 26, 2024. Deerpark Police located a 2008 Honda FIT registered to the missing individual at a pull-off area along State Route 97. A New York State Police Troop F Unmanned Aircraft System pilot conducted a search using a drone and located the body of a female at the bottom of the cliff. The body was recovered and later identified as the missing person from Brooklyn.
The New York State Police was assisted by the Deerpark Police Department, Port Jervis Police Separtment, Sparrowbush Fire Department, Orange County Technical Rescue, Huguenot Fire Department, and the New York State Police Aviation Unit.
The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by SP Greenville BCI.
