On August 1, 2024, at approximately 1:59 a.m., Troopers responded to the Southern State Parkway eastbound at exit 43A, town of Islip, Suffolk County for a report of a vehicle roll over. Upon arrival, Troopers observed a tan 2010 Toyota Prius overturned and resting on the shoulder in the tree line. The operator, Oliver Charles, age 18, of Deer Park, and a passenger, Dymond A. Saunders, age 17, of West Babylon, were both pronounced deceased by paramedics. Three additional passengers were taken to local hospitals and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident is under investigation and the State Police are asking for any witnesses or anyone with information regarding the incident to call (631) 756-3300.
