The New York State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving 3 passenger cars and a tractor trailer that occurred on State Route 28 in the town of Shandaken on January 8, 2024, at approximately 8:56 a.m.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a Volvo tractor trailer, operated by Ramon LunaLuna age 54 from Bronx, NY, was traveling east when he observed a Honda stopped on the roadway waiting to turn north on to Route 212. The tractor trailer stuck the Honda in the rear then crossed over in the double yellow line in the west bound lane striking a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe head on causing the tractor trailer to rollover. A fourth vehicle, a 2018 Audi SQ5 traveling west then struck the tractor trailer.
All three occupants of the Hyundai were juniors at Kingston High School. Dillon Gokey, age 16 from Kingston and Jack Noble, age 17 from Port Ewen were pronounced deceased at the scene. Joseph Sepesi, age 17 from Port Ewen was flown to Westchester Medical Center with serious non-life-threatening injuries. LunaLuna was transported to Kingston Hospital for evaluation. The operator of the Audi was not injured.
