On June 19, 2024, at approximately 5: 30 p.m., New York State Police in Monroe, responded to a fatal car accident involving four motor vehicles on Route 6 in the town of Woodbury (Orange County). The preliminary investigation determined that a 2021 Kia was traveling westbound on U.S. Route 6 and rear-ends a second vehicle that was also traveling in same direction on U.S. Route 6. The 2021 Kia then crosses over the double yellow line striking a third vehicle traveling in the eastbound lane of U.S. Route 6. A fourth vehicle traveling westbound on U.S. Route 6 was subsequently struck by the second vehicle. That collision resulted from the rear-end impact by the 2021 Kia.
The passenger that was traveling in the 2021 Kia was pronounced deceased. The passenger’s identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification. The operators of the 2021 Kia and the second and third vehicles were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
