Juvenile Arrested Following April Collision on Route 144 in New Baltimore

On April 21, 2025, at approximately 7:21 a.m., New York State Police Coxsackie responded to a report of a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision with injuries on State Route 144 in the town of New Baltimore, Greene County.

An investigation determined that a 2016 Subaru, traveling eastbound on Route 144, crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a 2021 Nissan. The operator of the Subaru, a 17-year-old male, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. A 14-year-old passenger in the Subaru also sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Both juveniles were transported to Albany Medical Center’s Children’s Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Nissan, a 36-year-old male from New Baltimore, also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Albany Medical Center for medical evaluation and care.

Further investigation revealed that the 17-year-old operator of the Subaru was impaired by drugs at the time of the crash.

On June 6, 2025, the juvenile was arrested and charged with the following offenses:

               •              Two counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger Less Than 16 Years Old, Class E Felony

               •              Vehicular Assault in the Second Degree, Class E Felony

               •              Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree, Class A Misdemeanor

               •              Act in a Manner Injurious to a Child Less Than 17, Class A Misdemeanor

               •              Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Unclassified Misdemeanor

               •              Reckless Driving, Unclassified Misdemeanor

               •              Multiple vehicle and traffic law violations

The juvenile was arraigned in the Youth Part of Greene County Court and was released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

The investigation remains ongoing.
