Four Charged in Animal Cruelty Case

On May 16, 2024, New York State Police arrested four people in connection with a case of over one-hundred neglected animals at a farm on Clark Lane and Pig Farm Lane in New Berlin.  

Each have been charged with felonies and misdemeanors from the Agriculture and Markets Law.

Dominick E Brown, age 44
9 counts of the class “E” felony of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals
95 counts of the misdemeanor of Overdriving, Torturing and Injuring Animals; Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance.  

Jane M. Richards, age 74
9 counts of the class “E” felony of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals
87 counts of the misdemeanor of Overdriving, Torturing and Injuring Animals; Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance.  

Helen F. Goude, age 56
2 counts of the class “E” felony of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals
3 counts of the misdemeanor of Overdriving, Torturing and Injuring Animals; Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance.  

Katheriena M.Goude, age 60 
2 counts of the class “E” felony of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals
3 counts of the misdemeanor of Overdriving, Torturing and Injuring Animals; Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance.  

On April 26, 2024, New York State Police, New York State Environmental Conservation, New York State Forest Rangers, New Berlin Police, Chenango County and Susquehanna SPCA as well as the Office of Emergency Management served a search warrant at properties located on Clark Lane and Pig Farm Lane in the town of New Berlin.  

Over two dozen animals were located deceased and an additional 107 neglected animals were removed.  The animals included horses, swine, cattle, sheep, goats, a llama, dogs and cats.  

All four were issued appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in the New Berlin Town Court on May 22, 2024.
