Fentanyl Arrest in Poughkeepsie

PRESS RELEASE

On February 27, 2024, the New York State Police arrested Cedric J. Thomas, age 58, of New York, NY, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell in the 3rd degree, a class B felony,  Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 1st degree, a class E felony, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd degree, both class A misdemeanors, and Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor, and Julio C. Tejada, age 40, also of New York, NY, for Controlled Substance with intent to sell in the 3rd degree, a class B felony, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th degree, and Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd degree, both class A misdemeanors.

At approximately 1:45 a.m., Troopers observed a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica operating on Columbus Drive in Poughkeepsie without headlights.  Following a vehicle and traffic stop, the investigating Troopers determined the operator, Cedric Thomas, was suspended and under the influence of drugs.  Further investigation discovered Thomas and Tejada were in possession of approximately 6.8 grams of fentanyl and 0.4 grams of crack cocaine.

Both subjects were arraigned before the Honorable Judge Volkman of the City of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.  They are next scheduled to appear before the court on March 1, 2024, at 11:00 a.m.
