On September 2, 2024, the New York State Police responded to a fatal motor vehicle crash on Route 9 near Alpine Commons in the town of Wappinger at approximately 10:00 p.m.
Initial investigation determined a 2006 Honda 999, operated by Dante Crespo, age 19, of Monroe, NY, was northbound on Route 9 and ran a red light striking a 2009 Lexus ES250 making a lefthand turn into the Alpine Commons parking lot.
Troopers and responding emergency medical service technicians began life-saving-techniques on Dante Crespo who was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. The passenger of the Lexus, a twenty-year-old female, was also transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital before being transferred to Westchester Medical Center with serious injuries.
This investigation remains ongoing.
