Fatal Two Vehicle Collision on Northern State Parkway

On Thursday November 13th, 2025, at approximately 5:50 p.m., the New York State Police responded to the Northern State Parkway eastbound, west of Veterans Memorial Highway in the town of Smithtown, Suffolk County, for reports of a two-car motor vehicle collision.

During the subsequent investigation, it was determined Carl Salmon, age 54 of Brooklyn, NY was traveling eastbound and operating a 2002 Infiniti i35.  Salmon attempted to change lanes and lost control of his vehicle, striking the rear passenger side of a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek.  The collision caused Salmon’s vehicle to exit the roadway, where it came to rest in the center median after striking a tree.  Salmon was transported to St. Catherine of Siena Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The collision also caused the Subaru Crosstrek to exit the roadway, overturn and come to rest in the center median.  The operator was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital, treated for minor injuries, and released.
