On October 15, 2024, the New York State Police responded to a serious motor vehicle crash at approximately 2:42 p.m. involving a wrong way driver on the Taconic State Parkway in the area of Todd Hill Road in the Town of Lagrange.
Initial investigation determined Joseph W. LaFave, age 35, of Lagrange, operating a 2017 BMW X1, traveled north in the southbound lane on the Taconic State Parkway in the area of Todd Hill Road. LaFave struck a 2017 Lincoln Navigator head-on in the left southbound lane.
Joseph LaFave was pronounced deceased on scene by responding paramedics. The operator of the Lincon Navigator, William F. Scheibel, age 69, of Wading River, NY, was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Scheibel’s passenger, a 67-year-old female, was also transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
This investigation remains ongoing.
Lagrange Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services, Beekman EMS, and the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office were all on scene.
