Fatal Crash on I-95 in New Rochelle Under Investigation

Press Release

On September 9, 2025, at approximately 12:03 a.m., Troopers assigned to the State Police New Rochelle barracks responded to a report of a two-vehicle personal injury auto accident on I-95 southbound at mile marker 6.1, within the City of New Rochelle.

An investigation by the Hawthorne Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Troop K’s Collision Reconstruction Unit revealed that a 2026 Peterbilt tractor-trailer was traveling southbound in the right lane and had slowed down due to an active construction zone with a lane closure. A 2016 Hino box truck subsequently struck the rear of the slowed Peterbilt.

Following the collision, the Hino became fully engulfed in flames.

The operator of the Hino was pronounced deceased at the scene. The operator of the Peterbilt was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At this time, no further information will be released pending notification of next of kin.
