On August 31, 2025, at approximately 6:48 p.m., a Trooper assigned to State Police Hawthorne (SP Hawthorne) conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling southbound on the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of Mount Pleasant for a violation of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
During the stop, the operator of the vehicle, identified as Jose A. Aliaga -Velasquez, 40, of Port Chester, NY, displayed signs of intoxication. Further investigation revealed that a 15-year-old child was in the vehicle at the time of the stop.
Aliaga -Velasquez was taken into custody and transported to SP Hawthorne for processing. He submitted to a chemical breath test, which yielded a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08%. The child was safely released to a sober third party.
As a result of the investigation, Aliaga- Velasquez was charged with:
• Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger (Leandra’s Law) – Class E Felony
• Driving While Intoxicated – Unclassified Misdemeanor
• Vehicle and Traffic Law Violation
Aliaga -Velasquez was issued traffic tickets and is scheduled to appear before the Town of Mount Pleasant Court on September 4, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
