On November 3, 2025, New York State Police members arrested Matthew A. Bogardus, age 39, of Brier Hill, NY, for Operating a Motor Vehicle Impaired by Drugs, DWAI Combined Influence of Drugs or Alcohol and Drugs, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th. He was also issued multiple vehicle and traffic law tickets.
At approximately 5:16 p.m., Troopers responded to Canton Street in the town of Oswegatchie for a report of a property damage accident. Upon arrival, Troopers observed a 2019 gray Jeep Renegade resting near a telephone pole. It was determined Bogardus was operating the vehicle and was lying next to it after being administered three doses of Narcan. He became conscious and combative toward Ogdensburg Rescue EMTs, was placed in restraints, and transported to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center for evaluation.
Bogardus was later released from the hospital and transported to SP Ogdensburg for further investigation. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were conducted and he failed. A Drug Recognition Expert evaluation indicated impairment. A blood sample was secured to determine drug content, and Bogardus was found to be in possession of narcotics during the search.
Bogardus was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Oswegatchie Court at a later date in November.
