Dump Truck Crashes Through Residence after losing control on NYS Thruway
This morning, June 24, 2025, at approximately 7:31 a.m., New York State Police Troop T Zone 2 responded to a serious motor vehicle collision involving a commercial dump truck on Interstate 90 near mile marker 182.6 in the Village of Fultonville, Montgomery County.

A 2025 Peterbilt dump truck, operated by Merwin W. Wells, age 63, of Fort Plain, NY, was traveling eastbound when he reportedly experienced a medical event. Wells stated he suffered a “coughing fit” and briefly lost consciousness. The vehicle veered through the left shoulder into the median, breached the center guide rail, crossed all westbound lanes, and crashed through the north-side guide rail.

The truck continued down a steep embankment, through a wooded area, and ultimately struck a residence located at 24 Washington Street, Fultonville. The truck impacted and destroyed the rear main bedroom of the residence.

At the time of the crash, the home was occupied by the 51-year-old resident and his two sons, ages 24 and 20. Fortunately, none of the residents were in the impacted room during the crash, and no injuries were reported.

Mr. Wells sustained minor injuries and was transported to Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, New York, for treatment.

Additional concerns at the scene included a ruptured home heating oil tank, located behind the residence, which was struck during the crash and resulted in an estimated 150-gallon oil spill. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation spill response team responded to manage the cleanup.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Thruway Authority personnel, and the Fonda-Fultonville Fire Department.
