On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at approximately 2:11 a.m., Troopers from the New York State Police Dover barracks attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2017 Buick SUV for violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law in the Town of Dover.
The driver failed to comply with emergency lights and sirens, resulting in a brief pursuit. The vehicle came to a stop in the parking lot of the Mobil gas station at 1782 Route 22 in Wingdale, NY.
The driver, identified as Eric P. Oakes, 44, of Dover, NY, was the sole occupant and displayed signs of impairment. He was taken into custody and transported to SP Dover for processing. While in custody, Oakes refused evaluation by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) and declined to provide a blood sample to determine drug content.
As a result, Oakes was charged with the following:
- Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the First Degree – Class E Felony
Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree – Class A Misdemeanor
Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs – Unclassified Misdemeanor
Reckless Driving – Unclassified Misdemeanor
Multiple Violations of New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law
Oakes was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Dover Court on August 7, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.
