On July 6, 2025, New York State Police at Norwich arrested Delbert F. Dewey, age 43 of Sherburne, NY for the class “C” felony of Arson in the third degree and the class “D” felony of Criminal Mischief in the second degree.
On July 5, shortly after 11:00 p.m., Troopers responded to a report of a vehicle on fire in a driveway of a residence on Classic Street in the village of Sherburne. Troopers arrived to find a fully engulfed vehicle and a large crowd. An investigation ultimately revealed that Dewey intentionally started a fire inside the vehicle after having a disagreement earlier in the day with the residents living on Classic Street.
Dewey was later arrested and processed at SP Norwich. He was arraigned at Centralized Arraignment and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $15,000 cash bail, $30,000 bond or $75,000 partial secured bond at 10%.
