Staten Island, NY – On October 21, 2024, Troopers from Troop NYC arrested Mark Chen, age 18, of Brooklyn, NY for the following charges: Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 3rd degree, a class D felony, Forgery of a Vehicle Identification Number, a class E felony, Reckless Endangerment in the 2nd degree, a class A misdemeanor, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle in the 3rd degree, a class A misdemeanor, Assault in the 3rd degree, a class A misdemeanor, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd degree, a class A misdemeanor, and several vehicle and traffic law violations.
Troopers were on patrol on the Staten Island Expressway in the vicinity of Exit 13 when they attempted to make a traffic stop of a 2021 Infiniti for an infraction. The vehicle then fled, but due to heavy traffic conditions, the Troopers did not give chase. A short while later, Troopers observed the Infiniti in the vicinity of Exit 10 without its operator and discovered it had struck several vehicles. After a brief search of the area, Troopers located and arrested the operator, Mark Chen, not far from where he abandoned the Infiniti, which was later determined to be stolen.
Chen was transported to the NYPD 121st Precinct for processing and lodged in Richmond County Central Booking.
