On April 4, 2026, at approximately 2:35 a.m., New York State Police in Poughkeepsie conducted a traffic stop on an Infiniti traveling eastbound on Noxon Road in the town of LaGrange for violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
During the stop, the operator, identified as Jose R. Lorenzo Paulino, 43, of Bronx, New York, displayed signs of intoxication. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered, which Paulino subsequently failed. Further investigation revealed that two children, ages 5 and 11, were in the vehicle at the time of the stop.
Paulino was taken into custody and transported to SP Poughkeepsie for processing, where he refused to submit to a chemical breath test. The children were safely released to a sober third party.
As a result of the investigation, Paulino was charged with the following:
- Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger (Leandra’s Law), a class E felony
- Driving While Intoxicated, an unclassified misdemeanor
- Multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations
Paulino was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of LaGrange Court on May 5, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
