Bronx Man Arrested for Pilfering Money from Archdiocese

Bronx, New York – On July 29, 2024, Investigators from the State Police Manhattan Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) in Troop NYC, arrested George Chiffriller (11/24/64) for the following charges: Grand Larceny in the 3rd Degree, a Class D felony, Grand Larceny in the 4th Degree, a Class E Felony, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 3rd Degree, Falsifying Business Records in the 1st Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th Degree, Petit Larceny, Falsifying Business Records in the 2nd Degree, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 5th Degree.

               The Investigators from State Police Manhattan BCI Criminal Squad, with the combined efforts of the Bronx District Attorney’s Office, opened an investigation in February of 2022 when the Archdiocese of New York made allegations that an employee had been pilfering money from the organization.  George Chiffriller, age 59 of Bronx, NY, was discovered to have stolen parish funds while employed as the Business Manager of St. John’s-Visitation by means of issuing unauthorized additional paychecks to himself.

               Comprehensive audits were conducted and analyzed by State Police Manhattan BCI and the Bronx DA’s Office, which determined between April 2017 and June 2021, Mr. Chiffriller had issued 109 unauthorized paychecks to himself, totaling $14,423.60.  On Monday, Mr. Chiffriller surrendered himself to the New York State Police at the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office, where he was charged and has been released on his own recognizance, awaiting arraignment in September.
