On June 7, 2024, the New York State Police responded to State Route 9 in the town of Livingston for a residential fire with individuals reportedly trapped inside the structure with Livingston Fire Department.
Investigation determined the fire was deliberately set by a fifteen-year-old suspect who was arrested for Murder in the 2nd degree Depraved Indifference to Human Life, and Arson in the 1st degree, both class A-I felonies.
The victim, Edmund W. Metz, age 58, of Livingston, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The fifteen-year-old suspect was arraigned before the Honorable Judge Howard of the Columbia County Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail.
