On Saturday, September 27, 2025, at approximately 9:03 p.m., a trooper assigned to State Police Kingston observed a 2010 Nissan traveling northbound on Interstate 87 in the town of New Paltz in violation of New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
The trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the town of Ulster; however, the vehicle failed to comply and continued northbound. A pursuit ensued, lasting approximately 12 minutes and reaching speeds of up to 130 MPH. The pursuit was terminated shortly thereafter, and the suspect vehicle fled the area.
A short time later, troopers located the suspect vehicle in the town of Catskill and attempted another traffic stop. The vehicle again failed to comply, initiating a second pursuit. During this pursuit, a tire deflation device was successfully deployed. The vehicle subsequently swerved and made contact with a marked State Police vehicle before continuing southbound.
The patrol vehicle made contact with the suspect vehicle, causing it to lose control. The vehicle struck the guide rail on the eastern shoulder, crossed both lanes, and struck the guide rail on the western shoulder. The suspect vehicle was then successfully stopped using a precision immobilization technique (PIT) to prevent further flight.
The driver, identified as an 18-year-old male from the Bronx, and the passenger, also an 18-year-old male from the Bronx, were taken into custody without further incident.
The pursuit lasted approximately 15 minutes, covered a distance of 27 miles, and reached speeds of up to 122 MPH.
