On 07/10/1971, William N. Legg reported his 8-year-old son, Douglas, missing. The Legg family was staying at the Melvin Family Estate on the Santanoni Reserve in the T/Newcomb, Essex County, NY. Legg explained his son attempted to follow his uncle, Myron Melvin, for a walk in the woods. Melvin reported sending the boy back to the camp, only 150 yards away and within sight of the main camp, because he was not properly dressed for a hike. The boy was last seen at about 3:30 p.m. that afternoon. A massive search operation was conducted for a period of one month, ending on 08/10/1971, with negative results. Multiple interviews of family and friends were conducted, also with negative results. No foul play was ever indicated. To this day, the body of Douglas Legg has never been discovered.
