Trooper Lawrence W. Lakeman became a member of the New York State Police on March 29, 1990. He entered into disability retirement from the New York State Police after 17 years of service on May 2, 2007. On August 24, 2007, he died as a result of pancreatic cancer stemming from his assignment to the World Trade Center site, following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. In response to the events of 9/11, Trooper Lakeman was assigned to aid with the search and recovery efforts in New York City, as part of the New York State Police Detail. Trooper Lakeman is survived by his wife and two daughters.
