Joseph L. Fitzpatrick

On November 17, 1937, Sergeant Joseph L. Fitzpatrick, 35, was killed in a car accident returning to the Hamilton station. Sergeant Fitzpatrick and his partner had been assigned to a roadblock for three days searching for convicts who escaped from the Jamesville Penitentiary. They were returning from the detail when their vehicle failed to negotiate a curve and went down a 12 foot embankment off the Cherry Valley Turnpike near Morrisville.

Sergeant Fitzpatrick was an 11-year veteran of Troop D, a senior member of the Rough Riders, and served as an aviator under the late Lieutenant Tremaine Hughes.
