On December 2, 1960, Trooper John S. Kelley, 34, died shortly after his vehicle was struck by a locomotive at an unguarded crossing in the hamlet of Felts Mills.
Trooper Kelley was assigned to SP Malone as the supervisor of the Motor Vehicle Inspection Detail for Troop B. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving from March 7, 1944 until honorably discharged on May 7. 1946. He joined the State Police at Troop B Malone on March 16, 1953.
