Trooper John J. McKenna IV, 30, was killed by enemy sniper fire outside the Iraqi city of Fallujah on August 16, 2006. Trooper McKenna was serving as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps as Platoon Commander of Company B, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines.

Trooper McKenna entered State Police service on February 14, 2005 and was assigned to Troop F, SP Kingston, at the time of his recall to military duty. He had served 18-months with the Division of State Police and previously served on active duty in Afghanistan and Iraq with the Marine Corps from June 1998 to August 2003.
