John G. George

Trooper John G. George died on March 1, 1970 of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Trooper George and his partner were parked along Route 5 near the village of Herkimer to complete daily reports. Both were overcome by deadly fumes when the twin tailpipes of their patrol car were blocked by a snow bank. The quick actions of Herkimer station members and the staff of Herkimer Memorial Hospital saved one life, but Trooper George died shortly after 7:00 A.M. Trooper George was 36 years old at the time of his death.

Trooper George joined the State Police on June 18, 1962 and spent the majority of his career at the East Herkimer Station. He was active in the civic and community affairs in Little Falls.
