Troop D - July 9, 2017
On July 9, 2017, Trooper Joel R. Davis, 36, was killed responding to a domestic disturbance and shots fired call in the town of Theresa, Jefferson County.
Trooper Davis was the first to arrive at the scene, and was shot by the suspect as he approached the home. Trooper Davis died a short time later at a local hospital.
The suspect surrendered to Troopers and was formally charged with Murder 1st Degree, for the death of Trooper Davis and Murder 2nd Degree, related to the death of his spouse.
Trooper Davis served with the New York State Police for four years and previously served with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
