Hurricane of 1938

Aftermath Of Hurricane Of 1938

1938: The hurricane of 1938, known as "The Long Island Express," is remembered as one of the deadliest and most destructive hurricanes to ever hit the east coast. It made landfall as a Category 3 storm on September 21 at Westhampton Beach, where it resulted in massive destruction and a death toll of 29 people. The storm temporarily made Montauk an island as it flooded across the South Fork and obliterated the tracks of the Long Island Railroad. A large detail of Troopers responded to provide emergency care and assistance to the area.
