On February 5, 1997, at about 6:00 p.m. on the eastbound side of I-84, about 1/5 of a mile west of exit 12 and about four miles east of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge eastbound toll barrier, Richard Aderson apparently was involved in an accident. An argument ensued and Aderson was shot in the chest. After the shooting, the suspect left the scene and headed eastbound on Interstate 84.
