Electronic Control Device (ECD)

Man Aiming Taser

2010: To reduce injuries to members and others, the State Police researched and implemented an Electronic Control Device (ECD), commonly known as Taser pilot program. An ECD is a weapon that uses electricity to override voluntary motor responses or apply pain in order to gain compliance or overcome resistance from a subject. The ECD allows for a quick recovery time, requires no decontamination, and allows officers to subdue a subject from a greater distance than OC spray.
