Trooper Darryl J. Burroughs Sr. entered into service retirement from the New York State Police after 28 years of service on July 31, 2011.
On May 25, 2016, Trooper Burroughs passed away from an illness stemming from his assignment at the World Trade Center site following the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.
Following the events of 9/11, Trooper Burroughs was assigned to New York City to aid in the search and recovery efforts.
Trooper Burroughs is survived by his wife and five children.
