Trooper Covel C. Pierce, 60, died on March 10, 2011, as a result of brain cancer stemming from his assignment to the World Trade Center Site following the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.
In response to the events of 9/11, Trooper Pierce was part of the New York State Police Detail assigned to aid with the search and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center site.
Trooper Pierce entered the Division on January 24, 1974 and served with the New York State Police for 30 years. He served in Troops K and G. At the time of his retirement he was a Trooper assigned to Troop G, SP Saratoga. Trooper Pierce is survived by his wife and two children.
