Trooper Charles W. Perkins, 24, died of injuries sustained in a one-car accident on October 26, 1967.

Trooper Perkins was investigating a larceny of gasoline from a service station and was given a plate number by the gas station operator. Learning the vehicle was stolen from Canton, Ohio, Trooper Perkins was in pursuit of the car when he lost control of his Troop car on wet pavement and struck a tree. He succumbed to his injuries eight days after the accident without regaining consciousness. The subject of the chase, a fugitive from the Columbus State Hospital, Ohio, was arrested a short time after the accident.

Trooper Perkins joined the State Police on February 24, 1966.
