Sergeant/Station Commander, Arthur A. Scarafile, 51, was killed instantly in a traffic accident on May 8, 1986.
Sergeant Scarafile was travelling east on Higby Road near Utica, when a dump truck, travelling in the opposite direction, lost its power steering and brakes. The truck crossed the highway and struck the Troop car on the driver's side, crushing the vehicle and killing Sergeant Scarafile.
Sergeant Scarafile joined the Division of State Police July 31, 1958 and briefly served in Batavia and Oneida. He was assigned to the Thruway Detail on October 12, 1959 and rose to the rank of Station Commander.
