Duties & Responsibilities:The Public Information Specialist 1 will assist the Director of Public Information in the administration and day-to-day operations of the New York State Police Public Information Office.

The Public Information Office (PIO) responds to media inquiries, prepares news releases, coordinates public events, assists Troop-level public information officers and field personnel with media relations, and serves as liaison on public relations matters with other government agencies. The PIO also oversees the Division's social media program, assists various sections to develop materials for dissemination outside of the agency, and produces graphic and audiovisual materials as requested.

DUTIES:
Prepare and write press releases as directed.

Respond to media inquiries; conduct interviews with reporters.

Assist with creation of content for social media channels, which may include shooting and editing photographs and video.

Assist Troop PIOs and command staff with media relations.

Work with Troops and sections to develop content for announcements and events that support the agency's public safety mission.

Assist with planning and provide staff assistance for special events including news conferences, interviews, conferences and other events as needed.

Prepare speeches and talking points for the Superintendent and other command staff.

Any other duties assigned by the Director of Public Information.


JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Excellent writing, speaking, presentation and interpersonal communication skills.

Related experience working in communications, public relations or media, including experience with various social media platforms.

Ability to work quickly and accurately under deadline pressure.

Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office suite.

Demonstrated experience with various social media platforms.

Experience shooting and editing photographs and video is a plus.
Minimum and/or Preferred Qualifications:A Master's Degree directly related to the Public Relations field;

OR

A Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, Media, Public Relations, or related field and two (2) years of experience in Public Relations and/or in writing or producing content for various media.

OR

Six (6) years of experience in Public Relations and/or in writing or producing content for various media.
Additional Comments:Starting Salary: $56,604.00.
