Aviation

Q - How many Aviation stations are there?

There are five Aviation Units which are located in Albany, Batavia, Syracuse, Saranac Lake and Newburgh.

Q - What types of missions does Aviation fly?

The Aviation Unit uses its' aircraft for search and rescue, traffic control, marijuana eradication and aerial photography. The Unit provides essential air support services to law enforcement agencies at all levels in the State, and works closely with other State Departments, the U.S. Secret Service and the F.B.I. The helicopters are used for Medevac programs throughout the state in conjunction with EMS personnel.

Q - What qualifications does an individual need to become an aircraft mechanic?

A licensed A&P (Airframe & Powerplant) and preferably 5 years experience. An individual does not need to be a sworn State Police member to apply for the position of aircraft mechanic.


Fleet

Q - I am interested in purchasing used State Police vehicles. Could you please provide me with dates and locations for upcoming auctions.

State Police vehicles are auctioned through the New York State Office of General Services (OGS) - Fleet and Properties Management Office. Auctions are held throughout the year at various locations within the state.
