Duties & Responsibilities: Assist Forensic Scientists 1 - 4 in conducting examinations and/or work that require development of new procedures and protocols. Prepare and complete a variety of standard laboratory procedures.

Set up and operate equipment. Maintain equipment and supplies for the laboratory.

May train and/or observe new staff members in the conduct of examinations, use of equipment, quality control procedures, record keeping.

Maintain compliance with quality control protocols and procedures and, also, with applicable accreditation guidelines; assist in audit preparation and, if applicable, remediation.

May be assigned to conduct tests to support development of new procedures and protocols.
Minimum and/or Preferred Qualifications: Requires successful completion (passing grade) of 120 credit hours (or equivalent) of college course work, with at least 18 credit hours in biology, chemistry, forensic science, science technology, molecular biology, genetics, statistics, computer science or related areas;

OR

Three years of experience performing forensic or related tests and procedures in a laboratory setting. (May be required to meet applicable professional and governmental standards for forensic laboratory accreditation, including N.Y.S. Executive Law Section 995-b.)
Additional Comments: This position does not require that the candidate have taken and passed a NYS Civil Service examination, or currently hold a qualifying position within the NYS Civil Service System. This position will be filled through a resume review and interview process.
