|Duties & Responsibilities:||Provide technical support on any emergency or drill, performing on-scene setup of any or all technical systems aboard any Emergency Command Vehicle or other temporary communications facility.
Responsible for scheduled and non-scheduled general maintenance on the Emergency Command Vehicles and all associated equipment.
Maintain, repair, test, configure and install all fixed, mobile, or portable components of land mobile radio communications equipment. Must be able to perform land mobile radio performance evaluations statewide, and operate essential test equipment for all related equipment.
Maintain liaison with outside vendors for preventative maintenance and repair services, and report any deviations from the contracts.
Perform such other duties and tasks as assigned by supervisor.
|Minimum and/or Preferred Qualifications:||High School graduate or equivalent with a minimum of two (2) years training in land mobile radio or related fields. Training received from academic institutions, equipment manufacturers, the military or employer provided on-the -job training will be accepted.
Possess an FCC General Radiotelephone Operator's License. The State Police may consider industry certifications issued by APCO, SBE, NABER or CET as equivalent to the FCC license.
Demonstrate knowledge of Radio Frequency equipment by two (2) years relevant employment experience in maintaining, testing, configuring and installation of land mobile radio communications equipment.
Preference will be given to candidates with a valid New York State driver's license.
|Additional Comments:||Starting Salary: $52,293.00.
Upon completion of training in the Albany area, the State Police Communications Technician, SG-18, will be assigned to the SP Canandaigua barracks and will travel to various locations in western New York, while reporting to the Communications Section in Albany,
New York. In addition, travel throughout New York State will be necessary for training, special events or to provide command post support.

This position does not require that the candidate have taken and passed a NYS Civil Service examination, or currently hold a qualifying position withing the NYS Civil Service System.
