|Duties & Responsibilities:||Actively participates in the design phase and assist in the implementation phase of radio/communications projects as required.
Maintain liaison with vendors and consultants and work closely with same to ensure the operational integrity and cost effectiveness of existing and proposed systems and equipment.
Review request for quotations and invoices relating to technical projects and acknowledge or comment as appropriate.
Review technical matters referred by the Director of Communications or other personnel and reply or comment as appropriate.
Propose new systems or modifications to existing communications systems in response to requests or needs.
Prepare plans and technical specifications for the purchase of communications equipment.
Develop and author, in consort with others, Requests for Proposal for release to prospective vendors.
Supervise the Federal Communications Commission licensing process.
Assist the Technical Sergeant in charge of the Mobile Radio Unit in supervising the Technical Services staff and ensures proper training of staff as required and distribution of the workload within the unit.
Represent the Director of Communications and the Division as required in all matters pertinent to radio and other communications concerns.
|Minimum and/or Preferred Qualifications:||Six (6) years of experience as a radio systems engineer involving the development, deployment, operation, and maintenance of wireless land mobile radio or other wireless communication systems.
A college degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Applied Engineering, Physics, or a related field may substitute for general experience as follows: Associates Degree - two (2) years; Bachelors Degree - four (4) years; and a Masters Degree - five (5) years.
Preference will be given to individuals who meet the following credentials:
Experience with voice and data radio equipment systems used in conjunction with Public Safety Answering Points for the prompt assignment of emergency service calls to response personnel.
Experience in analyzing radio systems suspected to be performing below specifications or predictions
Experience in analyzing and identifying the causes of radio interference problems
Experience in identifying and specifying remedial actions for radio performance problems or radio interference problems
Experience in the design and management of MPLS/IP systems
Possesses a FCC General Radiotelephone Operator's License, or an acceptable equivalent certification from a professional association
|Additional Comments:||Starting Salary: $71,309.00.
