The Office of Human Resources - Civilian Hiring Unit is responsible for:

Executing all the tasks involved in testing and processing, hiring and promotion policies, and administrating guaranteed benefits.

Administrating the Tuition Reimbursement Program and the Intern Clearinghouse.

Conducting exams for civilian (non-sworn) employees, such as Keyboard Specialist 1, Clerk 1 and Communications Specialist. Applicants receive a study guide.

Administrating the Department of Civil Service's New York State Electronic Personnel (NYSTEP) System in the State Police. The NYSTEP System's goals are to reduce by 75% the average time it takes to complete a personnel transaction and to create a paperless environment.

Coordinating the NYSP sponsored regional blood drives in cooperation with the Greater Upstate New York Region of the American Red Cross.
